Rooftop HVAC Acoustic Louvers | Bangalore Installation | HillPoint Global

HillPoint designed and installed acoustic louvers around rooftop HVAC equipment in Bangalore, meeting an 18 dB noise reduction requirement at 12 metres height with full ventilation maintained.

Location

Bangalore, India

Space Type

Rooftop HVAC enclosure

Product

Acousstop acoustic louvers

Manufactured

HillPoint facility, Tamil Nadu

The specification on this Bangalore project was clear: enclose the rooftop HVAC equipment on four sides with acoustic louvers, achieve 18 dB noise reduction, and do not restrict the ventilation the equipment needs to run.

What the specification does not capture is what that actually involves.

The equipment sits at 12 metres height. Working at that elevation adds time, equipment, and coordination to every part of the job. The louvers are exposed to Bangalore's weather - sun, monsoon, and wind load at height - so the material spec and the structural design have to account for long-term outdoor performance, not just acoustic performance on day one. The building's maintenance team still needs access to the HVAC equipment, so the enclosure cannot be permanent in a way that blocks service. And the consultant's 18 dB requirement is not a target to approach - it is a threshold that has to be met.

HillPoint's team worked through the engineering before arriving on site. The blade geometry of the louvers determines how much air passes through versus how much sound is blocked. Getting to 18 dB while maintaining adequate airflow for the equipment is an iterative calculation, not a product selection. The structural frame holding the louvers at that height was designed to handle wind loads specific to the site, not generic figures.

The photos show the finished installation: four sides of louvered enclosure around the rooftop plant, clean structural framing, and full height from plant deck to the top of the enclosure. The HVAC units themselves are visible behind the completed louver screens.

It looks straightforward in the photos. That is probably the point.
