Server rooms are not a common acoustic brief. Most of the focus goes into cooling, power, and uptime - sound control usually comes up only when someone complains about the noise bleeding into the office next door.

That is roughly where this project started. A server room in Hyderabad, with cooling fans and hardware running continuously, was sitting at 85-90 dB. Adjacent office space was directly affected. The client needed the noise brought down without touching the operational requirements of the room.

The constraints here were specific. The space runs hot, so anything on the walls has to work in elevated temperatures without degrading. Fire rating was non-negotiable - this is a data centre environment with strict safety requirements. And because server rooms collect dust as a matter of course, the panel surface needed to be easy to clean and not a trap for particulate buildup.

Acoustic foam was out immediately. Fabric panels were out. The right product for this was MetPan - HillPoint's perforated metal acoustic panel system - which meets fire rating requirements, wipes clean, and delivers NRC up to 0.95. That is a strong absorption figure for any panel type, but particularly so for a metal system, where most people assume performance will be lower.

The installation covered every wall floor to ceiling. Full perimeter treatment. The photos show the completed state: continuous perforated metal surface across both long walls and the corridor between rack rows, with the server infrastructure visible on one side and cable management overhead.
